FDOH Alachua Weekly Report for June 3 - June 9

Fri: 6/5: FDOH-Alachua: FDOH-Alachua Tobacco Prevention and Control program staff will present at the Alachua County Healthy Communities meeting on the results of a new survey of nearly 300 tobacco retailers in Alachua County about the availability of various tobacco products as well as reduced fat and fresh food options.

Mon. 6/8:  FDOH-Alachua Diabetic Program Manager is collaborating with the University of Florida Physical Therapy Department to encourage a Summer Wellness Walk at Fred Cone Park, 2841 E. University Avenue Gainesville, FL 32641 from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.

Tues. 6/9: FDOH-Alachua: FDOH-Alachua Tobacco Prevention and Control program staff will meet with the staff at the Gainesville Housing Authority (GHA) to discuss the benefits of a smoke-free housing policy for the GHA and their residents and assess the steps necessary for the GHA to adopt such a policy. This meeting is part of an ongoing partnership between Tobacco Free Alachua and the GHA to create healthier living environments for Alachua County residents.

Tues. 6/9: FDOH-Alachua: FDOH-Alachua Tobacco Prevention and Control program staff will meet with Jenna White, President of the North Central Florida Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), to discuss ways to educate and empower human resource professionals to encourage and implement tobacco free policies in Alachua County businesses. This is part of an ongoing effort to create healthier environments for Alachua County tobacco users and non-users in the workplace.
