FHB Alachua is working to increase community awareness of infant mortality issues and disparities through partnerships, tartgeted education, grass roots efforts, and community collaboration. Safe sleep, car seat safety, family planning and breastfeeding are the focus areas for Alachua County. Through partnerships with the Department of Children and Families Child Fatality Prevention Partnership, area pediatricians, and the NewboRN Home Visiting Program, FHB Alachua is working to reduce the number of sudden unexpected infant deaths. The Alachua County Health Department's Car Seat Safety Program partners with the Alachua Community Traffic Safety Team and local Child Passenger Safety Technicians to reduce the number of child injuries and injury related deaths. The Department of Health (DOH) in Alachua County's Family Planning clinics, and the UF Health Mobile Outreach Clinic are working to implement programs and policies that encourage avoidance of unintended pregnancies. Alongside the Alachua WIC Program and the North Central Florida Breastfeeding Coalition, FHB Alachua is working to increase overall breastfeeding rates in Alachua County.
