Program Description 

Mom Care

The MomCare program is part of the Healthy Start of North Central Florida Coalition and the Healthy Start MomCare Network. The program provides services for women who qualify for SOBRA, also known as pregnancy Medicaid. The MomCare program at the Alachua County Health Department assists clients in the twelve county region of North Central Florida, including Alachua, Bradford, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, Marion, Putnam, Suwannee, and Union Counties.


MomCare seeks to improve birth outcomes and infant health by providing a Maternity Care Advisor who will contact you by phone to:

  • Explain the importance of early prenatal care
  • Explain how to find a doctor or midwife
  • Explain pregnancy Medicaid options
  • Explain the current Managed Care enrollment options and process
  • Explain the WIC Nutrition Program and provide contact information
  • Provide information about the Healthy Start Program and services, and encourage screening
  • Connect you with other community resources that may be helpful
  • Provide educational information to you via mail
